Dr. S. Rehan Ahmad, Ph.D., FRSB, is Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology & Zoology at H M M College for Women, affiliated with West Bengal State University, Kolkata, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology and has multidisciplinary expertise spanning medical microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, host–pathogen interactions, antimicrobial resistance, microbial genomics, precision medicine, molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics, and computational biology.

Dr. Ahmad has authored 75+ peer-reviewed publications and has extensive experience in scientific publishing and editorial activities. He currently serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE, Guest Editor for JoVE, Joint Editor of Scotopia Journal, and Editorial Advisor for Elsevier Books.

His scholarly contributions also include editing two Elsevier books, Precision Medicine in Neurodegenerative Diseases and The Gut Microbiome in Precision Medicine. His CV reports 30 patents across India, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His academic achievements include the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (JRF-SRF), the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Award for Scientific Contribution in Society, and the Research Excellence Award 2021.

As Editor-in-Chief of Biological Sciences, Dr. Ahmad will lead the journal's scientific and editorial development, with a focus on strengthening peer-review quality, research integrity, editorial standards, and the journal's international academic network.

Dr. Ajit Vikram

Dr. Ajit Vikram is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa, specializing in cardiovascular medicine. His research focuses on the gut-heart axis, particularly how gut microbiota influence cardiac health through microRNAs. Notably, his lab identified microRNA-204 as a key regulator in the heart's response to stress, offering potential therapeutic targets for heart failure and diabetic vasculopathy.

Dr. Vikram's work has garnered significant funding, including a $2.5 million R01 grant from the NIH's National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He leads the Vikram Lab at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center and the Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center.

At Biological Sciences, Dr. Vikram serves on the Advisory Board, providing expert guidance on editorial strategy, fostering high-quality research submissions, and supporting the journal’s mission to advance scientific publishing.
